A few short rules for the forum. Most of them come down to one: be the sort of detective you would want on your own team.

1.Who the forum is for

The forum is for players 16 and older. You get in by solving the Riddle of the Month (access lasts a while, then a new riddle opens it again) or because we granted it. Posting means you have read these guidelines and agree to them; they are part of the Terms of Service.

2.Be decent

Talk to people here the way you would at a table with them. Disagree with ideas, not with people. Assume the other person is a real human having a normal day. Sarcasm reads worse in text than you think.

3.Spoilers stay in case spaces

Every case has its own space in the forum. Anything that could give away a case — who did it, a gate code, a puzzle answer, where a lead goes, what a document says — belongs only in that case's space, and only in a thread marked as spoilers. Never in a title, never in the general boards, never in a riddle thread.

Posting solutions or answer keys anywhere, even in a case space, is not allowed: the game is the point. Hints and “are you stuck on the same bit as me?” are fine in the right place.

4.No real people

Port Merrow is fictional and the forum stays that way. Do not post a real person's name, address, phone number, workplace, photo or anything that could identify them — including other players, our staff and yourself, if you would rather not be found. Do not try to work out who is behind an alias. This is called doxxing and it gets you banned on the first offence.

5.No harassment, no hate

  • No insults, threats, pile-ons or following someone from thread to thread.
  • No content that attacks people for who they are — race, religion, sex, gender, sexuality, disability, age, nationality or anything like it.
  • No sexual content, no gore, and nothing that would not be allowed in a case (see the content rules).

6.No spam, no ads

No advertising, affiliate links, crypto, fund-raising, or posting the same thing in several places. Promoting your own Creator CaseClosed Game is welcome in the Creator Corner board, once per case, with the link and a few honest words about it.

7.Reporting a problem

Every post and thread has a Report button. Use it: it sends the post to us with your reason, and nobody else sees that you reported it. For anything urgent or private, email info@playcaseclosed.ca.

8.What moderation does

Our staff read reports and watch the boards. Depending on what happened, they may:

  • hide a post (it disappears from the thread; the author is told);
  • lock a thread (it stays readable, no new replies);
  • ban an account from the forum for a while, or for good, for repeated or serious breaches. Doxxing, threats and hate are one-strike.

Every action is recorded with a reason. Moderation decisions are about the forum only; your cases, credits and account are not affected unless the Terms of Service are also broken.

9.Appeals

If you think a hide, lock or ban was wrong, email info@playcaseclosed.ca with “Forum appeal” in the subject and a link to the post. A different person from the one who acted looks at it and answers within a few business days. Please appeal once; repeating an appeal does not speed it up.
